Styled shoots are tons of fun & such a fabulous way to have fun with other pros while letting our creative juices flow a bit. After reading the description & details pertaining to this ‘contest’, my mind was racing with ideas – outrageous runner for the ceremony, programs, aisle décor details … I was focusing on ceremony elements, mostly, while in anticipation for the arrival of the precious paper. Once the magical delivery box appeared at my doorstep, I opened up the package (with my uber-excited 4year old daughter) & immediately noticed why Heather was excited to share this gorgeousness. It is not the material you come across in just any store. Although, I’ve used it before (successfully), I must admit chartreuse is not typically my first choice in color when planning an event but I grew to love it after this project. One concern I had; would the lovely scroll design project easily on camera? Also, the amount of paper I envisioned when plotting my shoot did not equate to the quantity that actually arrived, ha! This was probably a blessing. Everyone needs limits. Due to these concerns, I retraced my initial plans a bit. Before gathering my teammates, I needed to come up with the concept of the shoot & determine which details we were going to feature with this beautiful material. First – I needed a color scheme. Lately, I’ve loved mod tones & vibes. That would mean bold contrast colors – perhaps black or hot pink. However, sometimes mod does not come off as ‘high-end’. I didn’t want to take that chance. Something about highlighting this green patterned paper against an ethereal backdrop excited me. The design of the print translated to a glamorous, dreamy backdrop, easily, in my eyes. I wanted to create more of a dreamlike but high-end, chic setting. I envisioned an obscene amount of white chiffon draped & flowing everywhere. Silver became my go-to accent hue but that quickly changed because it felt too dull so I went with both silver & gold. Tassels have a huge place in my heart & will never go out of style. The giant mirror is something I tend to use a lot, as well & I love the added dimension it presented. The gold fabric on the dessert table is something I do not see often at events. It added a bit of quirk to an otherwise pristine dessert display. The beaded silver overlay is made from fabric of a wedding dress that Jen transformed into a tablecloth. We matched the green underlay to the hue of our paper. Now that I knew the overall tone, color scheme, & had my team, what was I going to do with the paper? The obvious choice was to utilize it to create beautiful stationery pieces to display as various tools (i.e. menus, escort cards, table #s, or invitations), which I did. I also wanted to present a different way to showcase the paper. I am an origami fan so that briefly came to mind until I remembered “no DIY!”. Rather, I replaced a few petals on the flowers with paper petals. I LOVED the way this looked. Not only did it give the flower a uniquely elegant look, it was a darling way to incorporate the paper. Strategically placed petals in the flowers made heads turned. It added another dimension to an already pretty object. For future brides, just a few here & there allows for a huge wow factor. Guest will think you spent a gazillion weeks creating these.
