AIRBRUSH vs TRADITIONAL FOUNDATION

Keep in mind that all makeup is only as good as the artist applying it.  Application and skills will always be the more significant factor than the product used.  It is the artist and method used to create a long-lasting and flawless beauty.

What is Airbrush Makeup?

A light-weight makeup applied through an air gun machine that sprays a thin and even layer of makeup which creates a very soft finish if applied correctly.  Basically, a small amount of a very thin makeup foundation created specifically for airbursh machine is put into the chamber of the gun.  When the machine is turned on and the gun trigger pulled, a light spray of makeup foundation comes out of the gun in a fine mist.

Airbrush makeup, like any other makeup has its ups and downs, as you will read below.

AIRBRUSH

Does it Create a Flawless Look?

Both Traditional and Airbrush foundation can create your skintone to a prettier flawless version.  It is most important to base on your personal needs, such as skin type and other factors that will determines which application is best for you.  Airbrush cannot change your skin texture to a smooth complexion as seen in magazine images of celebrities and models.  This can only be done by Photoshop to touchup all flaws.

Is it Water Proof?

There are a few makeup lines that produce water resistant foundation.  It has nothing to do with the airbrush gun application.  A great product on the market is MAC – Studio Fix Foundation Fluid, it has a super wear duration.  Another good item for your beauty kit, is Makeup Forever  – Full Coverage Concealer,  which is waterproof.    Both items are  one of the top best makeup products.

Water based Airbrush foundation (OCC Airbrush), is totally matte and comes off with touch of water.  It is not waterproof.  If it does come wet thru crying or sweating, you run the risk of streaking.  If the airbrush makeup gets wet and leaves a streak, there is nothing that can be done to blend it.  Even airbrushing over the area will not blend the streak.  This kind of application is great for a complete matte finish for indoor photo shoots, and not for special event makeup.

Silicone based Airbrush foundation (MAC Pro Performance HD Airbrush), offers a dewier finish and is water resistant. It is a better airbrush option for special events because it wears well and will hold better with the emotional tears and sweat.  Just like regular makeup, we recommend to blot the tears and not wipe.  It is also not-transferable, meaning that slight rubbing against someting will not cause the makeup to come off.

Is Airbrush Good for Bad Skin?

Airbrush is a very fine foundation, too thin to to create proper coverage on acne, scares, fine lines and wrinkles.  It can be use as a final coat on top of a traditional foundation for a finer finish.  Professionals are more likely to apply all traditional base concealer and foundation on the entire face, prior to the airbrush application to create the finishing of  a flawless look.

Airbrush has become extremely popular in the last few years. It has been highly promoted as a better product, which come with a higher service price for the industry.  And why not, women wants to be like celebrities and models, they will pay.  This is largely due to perfect complexion seen on magazines, which celebrities and models are “airbrushed” to give very part of their body a flawless finish.  Most people get confuse with the word “airbrush” Makeup vs Photoshop that create flawless looks.

Airbrush is a perfect application when it comes to High Definition camera’s for TV and Film, with professionals stand by for touch ups. It is especially  great for full body coverage and special effects.

Why Airbrush Application?

The coverage gives a flawless complexion which makes it look more natural (if applied properly).  Siliconed-based airbrush makeup will not transfer onto clothing with slight rubbing.  Airbrush provides finer details that captures better on HD cameras of the the flawless look.

Is Airbrush Application for Everyone?

No! Talk to your makeup artist to see if it would be a good option for your skin type.  Airbrush makeup needs to be applied to a smooth, moisturized, hair-free skin.  If you have any facial hair or dry flaky complexion, it will adhere to the hair and flake and make it more visible.  If you skin consist of the mentioned issues, Traditional makeup might be a better choice for you.

TRADITIONAL

Traditional makeup comes in a wide variety of liquid, cream, pressed poweder, which most are applied with a brush or sponge.  It is very versatile in compare to other makeup.  Most can create a very sheer coverage or combine with other products to build a medium to heavy base.

Why Traditional Application?

Traditional foundation is more opaque, and has a richer coverage.  Because it is an application by hand blending, the foundation can be worked well into the skin to create a better coverage  for those that may have some texture issues, such as pores and scares.  Traitional application is more flexible when it comes to building up or toning down coverage, which gives the artist more control on finishing out come.  Traditional foundation has come a long way.  Now a days, a variety of professional brands with silicone based formula are on the market, which provides a long lasting durability.

Traditional foundation is highly blendable, therefore makeup can be easily touchup for makeup change(s).  It’s great for that purpose, cause most modern bride like to be touchup for a fresher look and/or a makeup style change with dramatic glam effect for the wedding reception.  Traditional makeup allows such application possible, because it can be remove an reapply at the specific areas as need.

IN CONCLUSION

Airbrush is a very fine product, it’s great for camera productions because of the fine pigments from the spray.  Beacuse it’s very thin and light weight, it’s works best with good skin conditions which requires a lighter coverage.  However, most well-respected celebrity makeup artist use traditional foundation application, because it is more precise.

For live events, such as you wedding day, silicone based traditional makeup tend to be the artist’s preferred method, for control, precision and touchup/makeup change application.  Traditional makeup is most versatile, there for a better option for wedding makeup.
